Burlington is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. It is part of the Bangor, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 351 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 56.2 square miles (146 km2), of which, 53.8 square miles (139 km2) of it is land and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2) of it (4.32%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 351 people, 140 households, and 100 families residing in the town. The population density was 6.5 people per square mile (2.5/km²). There were 308 housing units at an average density of 5.7 per square mile (2.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.57% of the population.

There were 140 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 21.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the town the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 105.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.3 males.
